Crosswalk Colorado Springs

We recently had the opportunity to record a podcast with Jeff Anderson on Crosswalk Colorado Springs. Listen to Kay, Bill, Erika and volunteer James share more about Crossroads Ministries and the Owen Larson HOPE Homes.

I have years and years behind me taking care of my elderly family members. After having become a minister through Charis Bible College, I moved back to Illinois. At Charis, I had become familiar with Kay Owen and Crossroads Ministries. My friend had become a chaplain through Crossroads and in my heart I always wished that I could be a chaplain but never took any steps forward to do so. I guess I just needed someone to speak it into my life.

I had been making hospice visits to a friend's mother for about a year. I treasured those hours with her and often wrote about it or spoke about it on Facebook. I learned so much. After she died, Kay Owen call to me and asked me why I had not become a chaplain. She encouraged me to consider coming to school. For really the first time, I prayed about it. All the obstacles to my going were taken care of by God.

As I studied I would do clinical hours and what I was studying coupled with what I already knew as a graduate of Charis Bible College came to fruition. I did clinical hours in my small town hospital, and also as a hospice visitor in nursing homes. In addition I got a position in another nursing home to come in and preach their Sunday services.

One of my favorite places however was the hospital. I saw many healings of people that I truly did not think would live. I guess the nurses also saw that because they would often ask me to go and pray for some of the most sick people. One lady even came back from the dead that I prayed for!

It was exciting to see healing and salvation come to those who were in pain or lost.

But by far was the intense satisfaction of finally flowing in what God made me to be. Walking in to different situations, and having God impress upon me how to pray or how to minister was exhilarating. I simply became his mouthpiece and almost everyone responded.

Today due to health concerns I do a fraction of what I did through my clinicals. However, no matter how sick I have been in the last few months, I still found the energy to spend some time ministering. It was literally a lifeline for me.

There was also the development of knowledge that the Lord worked through me through becoming a chaplain. And when I was faced with the possibility of death my own self, I was prepared and unafraid, should things have gone that direction.

As of this writing, it looks like I ended up like one of the healed ones that I prayed for. I am continuing on as a Chaplain in my community serving those that I can and growing everyday.
